Before hiring a tax resolution attorney — Can you vow to be compliant from this moment forward?

| Jul 24, 2014 | Uncategorized

Before you decide to hire any tax resolution attorney to help you with your IRS challenges, there is one very important fact you’ll want to remember. From the moment you enter into an arrangement made by the attorney with the IRS, you will expected to be compliant from that moment forward.

From this moment forward…

What does compliance mean? It means that you must

  1. File your taxes on time.
  2. Pay your taxes on time.
  3. If you are making quarterly payments, you must pay your estimated taxes on time.
  4. If you have a payment schedule, you must make your payments on time.

If you do not remain compliant, all the work your attorney has done for you will be for nothing. Once you’ve entered into an agreement with the IRS they expect you to keep it. So, the next years’ taxes must be filed on or before the due date. If you need an extension, the extension must be filed on time.

If you do not remain compliant, the IRS will not be cooperative with you, even if you hire the best tax attorney. And worst of all, they will go after any assets you have. They can garnish your wages, put a lien on your property, seize bank accounts, and do just about anything to get what you owe them. So, as you consider the attorney you want to work with, be sure to talk about compliance and make sure that whatever agreement your attorney strikes with the IRS that you can live up to it.
